Another widely accepted surgical procedure, embraced by more and more women with children, is vaginoplasty, a technique to tighten and re-support the vaginal muscles.
An enlarged vagina is frequently a problem after childbirth, especially after multiple children, or vaginal delivery of a large baby or difficult delivery. Typically, the vagina and its supporting muscles and tissues, become stretched and torn during childbirth. This problem can include the area known as the pelvic floor, which almost never returns to its pre-pregnancy state once vaginal childbirth has occurred. The specialized surgical tightening and rejuvenation of the vagina, perineum, and the supporting muscles, is vaginoplasty. Like labiaplasty, vaginal tightening procedures have been distorted in the public’s mind by high profile television series and catchy marketing terms such as “Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation.” Although vaginal tightening operations are often considered cosmetic in nature, the truth is that the surgery must repair true vaginal support defects caused by the trauma of vaginal birth. Proper surgical technique and attention to detail lead to excellent results and patient satisfaction, not marketing slogans.
